Reason for refusal:
BS3998 states that: ‘When assessing the suitability of a tree for crown reduction, particular regard should be paid to the characteristics of the species as well as the physiological condition of the individual tree. The extent of crown reduction should be determined on the basis of the management objective and on an assessment of the ability of the tree to withstand the treatment.’ In this case, there is not sufficient evidence presented that the suggested works will be beneficial to the tree or are necessary for the management of the tree. In addition, the physiological and structural make-up of this tree, as an open grown over-mature Yew of high value, will very likely not benefit or be enhanced by this treatment, and may be damaged by it.
