Consented Works
? 5 metre lift of lower limbs
There is no objection to the removal of branches of or less than 5cm in
diameter to a height of 5m in order to provide clearance to the garden and
adjacent building.
The removal of dead wood is also permitted, being classified as works exempt
under TPO regulations.
Refused works
? 20% Crown reduction
BS 3998 states that 'Specifications for a percentage reduction are imprecise
and unsatisfactory without reference to length, height, spread'. While there is
no objection to the principle of the tree being reduced in a sensitive manner,
the percentage specification supplied is insufficiently precise to warrant
approval. It is therefore refused, but with consent for specific reduction works
granted under Lesser Works (see below).
? 15-20% Crown thin
BS 3998- Tree Work Recommendations stipulates that systematic crown
thinning should not be combined with reduction works due to its potentially
negative effects on the health of the tree. The thinning work is then refused.
Consent for Lesser Works
? Reduction in the height of the tree by an amount not exceeding 1.5m
? Reduction of lower branches by an amount not exceeding 0.5m in length in
order to bring the lower canopy back within the overall shape of the tree.
Informative:
Please note the authorised works should be completed within 2 years of the decision
notice otherwise a new application for consent to carry out any non-exempt tree work
will be required.
All tree works shall be carried out in accordance with British Standard 3998: 2010
and shall not exceed the attached schedule of tree work(s).
